Women On Water - Fremantle Sailing Club

FSC Women’s Racing and Mentorship Program (RAMP) is a new sailing initiative at Fremantle Sailing Club created to encourage women of all ages to enjoy the many different aspects of sailing. The program offers social, development and racing opportunities.

Today was another great day on the water for Georg

Today was another great day on the water for Georgia Payne and her FSC team competing in Swan River Sailing’s Interclub Championships. The women tied RFBYC for first and secured a 2nd on a count back for FSC which is a nice addition to the 3rd from FSC’s Veteran’s Team. Thanks to Swan River Sailing and Mounts Bay for hosting. Let’s see what tomorrow brings. Let’s go Freo! 💨🤞⛵️

RAMP entered 2 FSC teams in the Swan River Sailing

RAMP entered 2 FSC teams in the Swan River Sailing Women’s State Keelboat Championships this year and continued its streak of podium finishes with Team Pink skippered by Georgia Payne finishing in second overall. Team Orange skippered by Heidi Bucktin missed out on the podium but showed some great form demonstrating an ability to sail through the fleet in several of the heats. With consistency we could see two FSC teams on the podium next year. It was a challenging day with light variable easterlies, and it was clear that this year’s well-deserved winners on boat skippered by Bee Allison from Mandurah Offshore and Fishing Club were able to read the breeze better on the day. RAMP provided training sessions for both teams and there is a busy program of development sessions and competitions on the calendar for the year ahead.

The forecast is light but the excitement is solid and this year RAMP have 2 Fremantle Sailing Club teams entered in tomorrow’s Swan River Sailing Women’s State Keelboat Championships. We hope the racing will be as close as last year with one point separating 1st, 2nd and 3rd. RAMP’s Heidi Bucktin and Georgia Payne are 2 of a few new skippers this year and we wish them and all the teams breezy, fun, fast and close racing. 🫡🙌🏽⛵️💨

Congratulations to Eleanor Green and Pol Rafart of Team Steez for taking 1st place in the inaugural International Women’s Day Pacer Dash. They were followed by Lia and Ona Rafart on No Idea in 2nd and Imogen and Xavier Bates on FIGJAM in 3rd. There were 16 starters who raced across 4 heats with the top 2 from each advancing to the semi finals. The ratio between prize money and dollars invested was higher than the Sail GP. This was the biggest purse of the FSC sailing calendar. There was a mix of offshore racing legends and youthful hotshots. All teams consisted of at least 1 woman and we had a lot of remarkable combinations of teams including mother and son, mother and daughter, brother and sister, sisters and husband and wife. We also had teams sailing together for the first time. The breeze was stiff and several teams went for a swim. The Commodore, Vice Commodore and Rear Commodore of Sail were there along with our CEO. This wasn’t a fundraiser it was just fun and in celebrating International Women’s Day the aim was to bring together members over the whole demographic of the club. It seemed to work and the smiles and laughter told the story. RAMP wishes to thanks Michelle and Tim Brazier and volunteers for their time and attention to help making this happen. Thanks to Havoc Partners, North Sails, B Green Plumbing and Gas, Yacht Grot, Ghetto Blaster Coffee and Michelle Brazier for the awesome prizes. Let’s do it again. ⛵️😎
