Xavier Doerr – Arrives at Fremantle Sailing Club

Despite a rather tortuous week, 22 year old Xavier Doerr was in good spirits as he arrived on FSC soil in the early hours of this morning.

Xavier set sail from Southport Yacht Club in Queensland 35 days ago with the aim of breaking the 58 day record currently held by Lisa Blair for a solo and unassisted anti-clockwise voyage around Australia.

Unfortunately, for Xavier the rough weather experienced in Perth last weekend was felt even more violently where Xavier was a couple of hundred kilometers off the WA coastline – on Shipwreck coast. Where 12 meter swells and 80 knot winds shredded Xavier’s sail and ruined the electrics he had onboard.

A few staff and members of FSC club bravely ventured out to aid in Xavier’s rescue late last night and welcome him to Fremantle Sailing Club at around 1am this morning. Xavier’s plans are to now fix up his shredded sails, thaw out his electronics and continue his voyage back to Southport with his sights still set on two records; one for being “the youngest sailor” and one for “sailing the smallest vessel” during a circumnavigation of Australia.

We wish Xavier all the best!
