April Angling Fishing Comp

Denise Bech’s big day out

It was an ice-breaking performance from Denise Bech at the monthly Angling Section competition on April 2.

Sometimes a best lady but never a bride, Denise finally got the chance to walk down the aisle – or out of Shed 7 as a winner for the first time – when she put the blokes to shame.

One of the section’s most devoted anglers, Denise scored 69.84 points to win from Ray Wilson on 61, with daylight third.

If points were measured in enthusiasm, Denise would have won just about every competition she has competed in over the years, and there were hearty congratulations directed her way when her bag was declared the best of the day.

Fishing with hubbie John off Rottnest, Denise’s centrepiece was a fine snapper while a 40cm dhufish was released.

Andree Martin also flew the flag for the ladies – on a lamentable day for the fellas – when she nailed a baldie, the target fish for the month.

Most of the blokes, aside from Ray and George Greaves who landed a break-sea cod to claim the carryover target fish from January, performed a lot like the Dockers forward line – they went through the motions but there was nothing to show on the scoreboard.

A football coach would tell them: “You blokes need to take a long, hard look at yourselves!”

Thankfully, there is always the next competition, which is scheduled for May 6 – redemption day.
