School Programs

Fremantle Sailing Club is a not for profit sporting organisation that plays a key role in the Western Australian maritime community, engaging young people to explore the adventure of sailing.

The Club provides the facilities and resources for both Primary and Secondary school classes to have sailing as a sport offering, whilst also providing the flexibility to structure the offering to meet the requirements of the school.

Programs range from a weekly outdoor education lesson throughout the term to promoting
the Club’s Try Sailing opportunities for students to enjoy during the school holidays.

School program options

Sporting Schools Learn to Sail

Fremantle Sailing Club is an Australian Sailing, Discover Sailing Centre and delivers the sporting schools Tackers program. The primary outcomes of the program are to engage students in on water activities and sailing, and to provide opportunities for students to connect with a local sporting club and program in their community.

Weekly Sports Lessons

Sailing can be offered as sporting activity during school hours. Students will need to be brought to the Club via school provided transport and participate in a one to two hour lesson. A program can be designed for any number of weeks across a school term and will include rigging and de-rigging the boats, weather, sailing theory, and on water sailing time.

Sporting Clinics

The Club can host half or full day sailing activities to form a school excursion or end of term adventure camp. The length of this program can be adjusted to suit the school’s preference. A longer session includes a range of both land based and on-water activities including a longer adventure sail along South Beach. Class sizes can be up to 25 students and the cost is approximately $55.00 per student for a 4 hour lesson.

Co-curricular Sporting Activity

The Club can arrange an after school sailing program throughout the term. The standard Try Sailing program runs for five weeks of two hour lessons. We can arrange an exclusive training session for a school group and structure the timing to suit the school’s needs. The ten hour Try Sailing program is approximately $160.00 per student.

Sporting Schools

Sporting Schools is an Australian Government initiative designed to help schools increase children’s participation in sport and connect them with community sport opportunities. As such, they offer a variety of sporting grants to encourage schools to participate in the initiative and they can be found here.

The Club offers Try Sailing programs open to anyone in the community on Saturdays throughout the school term and programs during the school holidays. Students are welcome to register for a Club program and meet students from other schools in the area.
