Winter Camp - Registration now OPEN!

The first WAIODA winter camp is now open for registration!

Don’t miss out on this chance to have fun and learn from this dream duo: FSC Headcoach Chris Charlwood and Shelley White will be leading the coaching effort at this camp and they can’t wait to see you there!

Both Chris and Shelley are fantastic sailors in their own right and trained educators with many years of experience working with the youngest sailors.

Did you know? Both Chris and Shelley started their sailing journey in the optimist and both succeeded to become Optimist National Champions!

We would also like to hear from you if you are able to lend a hand. We would like to make this event extra special and welcome your help to assist with cooking sausage sizzles and ideas! Reach out the WAIODA committee here: waopti@gmail.com.

EOI | Be Part of Team WA – Optimist Nationals 2025
To All WAIODA Members

WAIODA is coordinating Team WA to participate in the 2025 Optimist National Championship which will be held in Brisbane in January 2025 – see more information here:

The annual Optimist National Championship is a great chance for developing young sailors and their families to experience a high-calibre regatta and immersing themselves in the excitement of travelling with friends and meeting other sailors from around the country.
WAIODA has developed a FAQ page for members curious about participating in the Optimist National Championship and to learn more about being part of Team WA. FAQ page available here:

WAIODA will start a working group involving all families interested in participating in the Optimist National Championship. Please register your interest no later than Saturday 8th June to be part of the planning kick-off for Team WA! To register your EOI click here:

WAIODA anticipates calling for a deposit of $400 in July 2024 from each member who have expressed interest in participation to secure their spot on Team WA. This will contribute to underwriting the main costs of securing coach(es) and rhib(s). Final cost per member depends on logistics and fundraising efforts of Team WA.

Other individual costs include a Team WA uniform (usually a t-shirt), event registration and the individual costs of travelling as a family (travel and accommodation).

If you’d like to know more or have any questions feel free to reach out to WAIODA on waopti@gmail.com, or to your club fleet rep:

Volunteer Request

Parents, guardians and supporters are encouraged to assist with the running of these events. Most tasks are light and easy and do not require any special skills. For those who wish to get more involved, there are specialised roles available such as laying marks and providing on-water support.
Not all tasks are on water. You could assist in the Canteen, cook up a BBQ or beach marshalling.
