Cruising Section | Annual General Meeting 2019

Fremantle Cruising Section AGM | Thursday 4th July

On Thursday 4th July we held our Annual General Meeting for the Cruising Committee.  It was tremendously successful, with Ollie pointing out that there were were more than  sixty attendees.  We are a very social section.

At this meeting we farewelled Robbie, who had officiated as our Cruising Captain over the last two seasons.  Robbie has worked tirelessly to represent the needs of Cruisers at the board level.  She has also  been instrumental in ensuring a diverse range of activities occur across the club calendar.  Thank you Robbie for your hard work.

Robbie oversaw cruises to Bunbury, Mandurah, Garden Island, Rottnest and Hillarys.  As part of the committee she also supported cruises to Geraldton and the Abrlhos Islands.  She also hosted several travellers whilst circumnavigating.  She also worked tirelessly to ensure our progressive dinners and social events went off without a hitch. Her parting triumph she stated though, was fulfilling a pledge to update the Circumnavigators board… (Do I hear a “well done missy!”?)

Jon Sanders and Dr Stephen Davis also spoke briefly to the group about the progress so far toward  Jon’s next Circumnavigation.  This epic event  will be a platform to highlight the plight of plastics in our oceans.   Jon and Stephen will give a full account at the next topic night… so I won’t give away too much here.  That will be an evening not to be missed.

Steve Parkinson was elected as the new Cruising Captain and all positions on the committee were also filled.  Steve did state that he had a tough year ahead keeping up with Robbie.

Earlier this year we held an open forum to discuss new ideas to meet the needs of our members.  We were not content to offer the same range of activities year after year.   We wanted to ensure that we represented the views of the the section as it changes with time.  Many great ideas were put forward in this forum.  The new committee is dedicated to a range of initiatives over the next season.

Congratulations to the new volunteers who will be planning next season’s events.   Thank you to past committee representatives for the great work done last year.
