From the Helm
Dear Members – Our Annual General Meeting is less than two weeks away where we will welcome a new Commodore and Board of Management to lead the Club for the next 12 months. I would like to take this opportunity to thank staff and volunteers for their amazing commitment to the Club, providing members with excellent service and great facilities and to thank members for their ongoing support of the Board of the last year. We have a strong community of individuals brought together with a passion and commitment for the ocean and water-sports in all forms. It has been a pleasure to be your Commodore and I look forward to continuing to see you around the Club and out on the water soon!

Club Capex & Significant Projects
SERVICE JETTY – Work is now well underway. A reminder about the temporary fuel service in place for the duration of works, You will need to visit the Harbour Office in the first instance to collect a swipe card and set up payment arrangements. A reminder that diesel will only be available on site during this period.
FIRE & EMERGENCY SERVICES – To enable work to commence as soon as possible after approvals are granted, we have begun the preparation of tender documents for the first stage of the Fire & Emergency Service upgrade.
DINGHY CLUBHOUSE – Subject to member approval and response to pending Development Application (DA) from the Fremantle City Council, we will then seek a building licence and sign a works contract with the successful tenderer to commence as soon as possible.
SITE DRAINAGE ISSUES – Nothing further to report on this issue at present. City of Fremantle continues to work and investigate possible solutions.
DoT Lease Update
The land and the seabed rent disputes have been referred to arbitration and Mr Wayne Martin AC QC has been appointed the arbitrator. This follows the failure to make any progress on resolving the dispute by negotiation between DoT and FSC. Despite these negotiations, we still do not know the methodology used by DoT to determine the 22 fold increase in the rent.
A date has not yet been set for the arbitration hearing but the Board expects that the first part of the hearing will occur later this year.
As at the start of June, the Club had 3,169 members. House Support Part 2 invoices have been issued this week. House support may be used in the bar, restaurant and kiosk and for the purchase of any Club merchandise. Members may also take advantage of the 10% discount on packaged beer and wine to take away.
Declared Board Positions 2021/2022
At the close of nominations at 5.00pm on Tuesday 29 June, 2021 to fill vacancies on the Board of Management for the 2021/2022 Club year, the Returning Officer declared all vacancies filled unopposed and therefore not requiring an election to be conducted. The results are as follows:
Ron Greer will become immediate Past Commodore and will be eligible to sit on and vote at the Board for a period of one year (Section 18(b) of the Constitution).
A reminder to all FSC Members that over the next two months, Sections will also be holding their own individual Annual General Meetings, and as always, are keen to get interest from new people to both join and support the Committees who volunteer to keep the Sections active and focused on their goals and objectives. Angling, Game Fishing & Dive
Game Fishing: Nothing to report this month.
Angling: A good crowd attended the Angling monthly meeting – including a couple of new members –
welcome along! Also of note was the record breaking Pink Snapper caught by George Greaves.
Dive: Our monthly dive was just about a full house this month which was fantastic to see – a great day had by all! Also, our divers are continuing their work on the anode wiring program.
This month saw the start of the Keelboat Winter Series, along with Valmadre racing and the Huck Scott Series in the Dinghy’s.
Power, Bosuns, Pipes & Drums
Power: A very successful Winter Warmer Feast washeld on 19 July with the whole Galley booked out!
As usual, our Bosuns undertook a wide a variety of jobs around the Club. This month they tackled one of the fire pumps which had seized up, assisted fitting two finger jetties, fitted new bearings to 18 wheelbarrow trolleys and
undertook gardening and a general clean-up around F Area and the Harbour Master’s container.
Pipes & Drums: A fairly quiet month for Pipes and Drums – looking forward Pipe Major Stuart Bradford will
play at the East Fremantle Yacht Club’s Mess Night and then at the South of Perth Yacht Club’s Mess Night which is being held in conjunction with FSC on 16 July.
The Duty Officers kept the Friday Night Happy Hour Raffle progressing through June.
This month saw the proceeds going to the St Patricks Christmas appeal as a lead-up to the Clubs Christmas in July buffet offering.
Raffle Prizes now include a Fruit and Vegetable basket as well as the traditional Meat pack.
Sincere thankyou to the Friday Night members who so generously contribute.
From the Desk - of the CEO
At the beginning of July, West Australians were once again confronted with a mandatory lockdown, and another impact on our Club’s operations, but fortunately only for a relatively short period. Thank you for your understanding and complying with the ever-changing rules, and trust our decision to extend House Support Part 1 to mid-July was appreciated by everyone.
The Olympic Games in Tokyo are soon to commence and whilst all events are exciting, we will be particularly focused on the Sailing and watching the performance of FSC Members Monique de Vries and Nia Jerwood in the 470 Women’s racing starting on the 28th of July and Matt Wearn in the Laser Men’s starting the 25th July.
A schedule will be displayed in the Club Bar and the TV will be tuned in for each of their scheduled races. Make sure you come in and help cheer them on!

FSC achieved total income of $781k compared to a budget of $740k for the month of May and a net profit of $57k (before depn) compared to budget of ($40k). After dpn and DoT rent, net profit was ($112k) compared to a budget of ($112k). Year to date, Net Profit before depn, is ($238k) compared to budget of ($484k). F&B had a relatively good month. The Boatyard had a strong revenue performance while Harbour & Jetties was slightly under budget.
Organisation & Club Culture
Chris White has been appointed to the role of Sailing & On Water Events Manager. Chris has been a member of the Club for a number of years and is a welcome addition to the FSC team!
Long term boatyard employee Derek Green has also resigned after 13 years at FSC, and this has presented an opportunity to review boatyard operations and procedures.
Marketing team are working on developing a new Club website – and we also are delighted to welcome Belle Perez as Marketing Assistant, working with Emily and supporting all the Club’s marketing and social media needs.
Accounts continue working with Micropower in finding a solution to the frustrations with our current member accounts and hope to have more information on that within next month.
We have engaged an external consultant to undertake a full audit of our Environmental and WH&S compliance. This information is critical to ensure the Club is providing a safe environment for all members, staff and contractors. We are also planning to conduct Emergency Spill Response Training later in July – further information will be provided when available.
Legal / Insurance Matters
No new legal issues affecting the Club to report.
The process to review annual insurance renewal is planned to commence late July/early August but with minimal claims in the past 12 months, hopefully a better result with premiums.
Membership Activities & Events
Friday night raffles and entertainment continue to prove very popular and even with the cold winter nights, we are still seeing good attendance in the Bar and Restaurant. Thank you for your support.
Each week the benefactor of the raffle proceeds may change and this will be explained before you buy your tickets – House Committee has agreed to a nominated charity or Club activity to be the regular recipients.
A reminder that tickets are still available for the ‘Winter Wonderland Ball’ which will take place on Saturday 31 July. Tickets can be purchased at www.trybooking.com/BRGQK or by calling reception on 9435 8800.
The Club staff and Sections are working together to plan an FSC Showcase Day on Sunday 12th September – an opportunity for us to “show off” all the fun stuff we do to our existing members as well as potential new members.

Marina & Maintenance Matters
As mentioned earlier work on the Service Jetty continues with a temporary fuel service in operation.
With recent wild weather and extremely high tides, a reminder to all members to regularly come and check your boats (both on water and hard-stand) to ensure they are secure.
Exmouth Race Overview
A final debrief with the Race Committee was held late June with a decision to conduct a survey with all participating skippers & crew. The results of this survey will be shared at the Topic Night on 15th July and will help in determining when to run the event again and where improvements can be made to make it even better than it was this year.
Overall, we had 36 boats entered, approx. 280 people including skippers, crew and volunteers, no major incidents, and approx.
$23k in sponsorship (cash & in kind).
